Tricalcium phosphate (TCP) is added to many modern fluoride varnishes because it enhances the protective and remineralizing effects of fluoride. The main benefits include:
Enhanced remineralization
TCP supplies bioavailable calcium and phosphate ions, which work with fluoride to rebuild demineralized enamel.
This promotes formation of stronger, more acid-resistant mineral.
Greater fluoride efficacy
Fluoride alone depends on calcium and phosphate from saliva.
